Dry needling is an effective technique used by some of our physiotherapists. It is generally used as an adjunct to other physiotherapy treatments.
Dry needling involves the insertion of acupuncture needles into trigger points or tight bands of muscle around the body. This helps to stimulate an increase in blood flow and causes a release of your body’s natural anti-inflammatory and pain relieving substances.
The risks of dry needling are minor and your therapist will explain these in full prior to your treatment. All physiotherapists who use this technique have completed an APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) course in dry needling and musculoskletal acupuncture.
What Conditions can Dry Needling treat?
Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as back and neck pain, tight muscles, tennis elbow, knee and ankle pain.
