Matt completed his Physiotherapy degree at the University of Queensland in 1996 and developed an interest in chronic and complex pain conditions early in his career whilst working in both the public and private sectors. He completed a Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) at the University of Sydney in 2007.
To further his expertise in the physiotherapy management of persistent pain conditions, Matt undertook a two year training program with the Australian College of Physiotherapy. He successfully completed the final exams in November 2022 to be awarded the title of Specialist Pain Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2022). Matt is the sixth physiotherapist in Australia to complete the Specialist Pain Physiotherapist training program.
Matt carefully listens to understand each client’s story, performs a thorough clinical assessment and will explain what may be contributing to the pain condition. Pain is complex, and each presentation is unique, so an individualised plan is discussed.
Matt is strongly evidence based in his approach. In the scientific literature, conservative management strategies such as education and appropriate exercise and activity consistently recommended as first line treatment options. These options are often challenging, but are ultimately rewarding.
